Far from strangers to the medals podium, Shauna Rohbock (driver) and Valerie Fleming (brakewoman) enter the 2007-2008 pre-Olympic season as one of Team USA's brightest hopes for a repeat Olympic medal performance come February of 2010 - except this time, as Olympic veterans, they'll be sliding for gold.

Rohbock began bobsled in 1999, paying her dues as a brakewoman with a handful of drivers including future Olympic gold medalist Jill Bakken. All the while Shauna had her eye on getting her hands on the drive rings. She had left behind a career in women's professional soccer, bringing her foot speed to the ice. Years later, in 2002, she got her shot in the driver's seat and that's where her true athletic ability - surgical grade hand-eye coordination and nerves of steel under 4G's of pressure at 80+ mph -  really began to shine.

Meanwhile, by 2003, Valerie Fleming, a decorated track star (javelin) at UC Santa Barbara, was pursuing her Master's degree in Health, Physical Education, and Recreation (HPER).  She was encouraged by colleagues to give bobsled a try - as a number of the sport's biggest stars had roots in track and field.  The encouragement was well warranted.  In September of '03 Fleming was invited to the US Olympic Training Center in Lake Placid, NY for a physical fitness/aptitude test.  It quickly became clear she had what the team was looking for and one month later she was on the ice pushing bobsleds in Park City, UT.  It was there that she was paired by the coaching staff with an up and coming driver - Shauna Rohbock.  They have been a team ever since.

One year later Rohbock and Fleming stood on a World Cup podium together for the first time, winning a bronze medal in Altenberg, Germany.  They returned to the medals podium three more times that season, including for a bronze medal at the World Championships.

The 2005-2006 season brought with it four more trips to the podium, by far the most memorable of which was as the Olympic silver medalists at the 2006 Olympic Winter Games in Torino, Italy. Rohbock and Fleming had firmly established themselves as one of the top teams in the world and had proven they could deliver on the world's largest stage.

Since then they've had eleven more visits to the medals podium and have invested enormous amounts of time and resources over the last two seasons experimenting with new equipment and training techniques all with the single-minded purpose of turning silver into gold in Vancouver. The enter the 2008-2009 season as the number one ranked US team and a proven medal threat at every World Cup competition.
